Former CM of Chhattisgarh Ajit Jogi has reacted to his son Amit Jogi’s arrest on Tuesday. He has alleged that the Chhatisgarh Chief Minister, Bhupesh Baghel, has lost his mental balance and has stopped caring about the judiciary. Amit Jogi was arrested on Tuesday in the state’s Bilaspur district. According to the police, he was arrested on charges of cheating and forgery.
Commenting on his son’s arrest, the former CM said, “CM Bhupesh Baghel has lost his mental balance. He is so drunk with power that he has stopped caring about the judiciary. Three months ago Chhattisgarh HC gave a decision that allegations against Amit Jogi are false.” Ajit Jogi also termed the action against his son as malicious, while speaking to the media. The arrest was made following a complaint lodged by BJP leader Sameera Paikra. The case against Amit Jogi was registered earlier this year, for furnishing false information in his election affidavit.
Paikra was the BJP candidate from Marwahi constituency in the 2013 state Assembly polls where she lost the elections against Amit Jogi. Paikra in her complaint said Amit Jogi allegedly submitted wrong information about his birthplace while filing his nomination papers for the 2013 polls. After the investigation for about six months, "Amit Jogi was arrested from Marwahi Sadan in Bilaspur, based on the FIR lodged against him in February this year at Gaurela police station in the district," Superintendent of Police Prashant Agrawal told PTI. Amit Jogi was booked under Indian Penal Code Sections 420 (cheating), 467 (forgery of valuable security), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating) and 471 (using as genuine a forged document or electronic record), he said.
Amit Jogi was arrested in the middle of heavy police deployment in the early hours of Tuesday and slogans were raised by his supporters against the police actions. His arrest comes soon after an FIR was registered against his father Ajit Jogi in Bilaspur district, days after a government-appointed committee rejected his claim of being a tribal.
