President of Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) and leader of Akali Dal, Manjit Singh GK, and his family members were attacked in New York by a group of Khalistan supporters. Manjit Singh posted the video of the incident which took place while he was coming out of a TV studio after participating in a debate.
"A group of people attacked me and my relatives in New York. This will not scare me away from my path to serve the community. I have fought and I will fight till my last breath.Such cowardly incidents do not scare me," Manjit Singh tweeted tagging External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj.
In the video, Manjit is seen sitting inside his parked car along with his brother and sister-in-law when suddenly a group of pro-Khalistani supporter rushes towards him. With an intention to harm the leader, they try to forcefully open the door of the car and damage the car by smashing the windows. Getting the sense of the situation, Manjit Singh and his brother steps out of the car and lock horns with the attackers.
While speaking to Republic TV, Manjit Singh GK said,"I came out of a TV channel debate. People under 'nasha' attacked me and my family. They want to crush any voice from India. They're from ISI. We fight for our cause, justice for 84, justice for our community. No doubt they're from ISI".
"US police has assured that they will nab them soon. I have registered a case. We are not afraid of them. They were Hooligans and we will fight them out", he added.
Kirat Singh, a local Journalist who was an eye-witness to the incident, spoke to Republic TV and gave out a clear image of the incident.
"We were just there and as soon as he came out of the building a group of supports rushed towards Manjit Singh GK and started agruing with him. This is not the first time, previously when Manjit Singh landed to New York and attend a programm in Gurdwara he was attacked there as well", he informed.
Condemning the incident, BJP National Secretary,RP Singh said:
" I heard the TV bytes of Mr GK that he went for and interview and while coming out of the studio, he was heckled and they pushed him and removed his Turban. The act by pro-Khalistani supports are condemnable. No Khalistani for namesake will ever take away the Turban or push a person or hit him. This is not Khalistan, this is some rampant element. The New York police and UK government will take conginence of the incident and will punish the attackers".
The Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee will hold a press conference at 2 pm on Tuesday to discuss the attack that took place on Manjeet Singh GK.
