Reacting to Owaisi's 'modern-day Godse'comment, BJP I-T cell head Amit Malviya on Thursday said that Owaisi should focus on what he himself has done in five years. He said, “The opposition that had (forgotten) Gandhi has now rediscovered itself, which is in itself a great achievement of Mr Modi and his government. At least those who continue to be in power for many many years in Gandhi’s name are discovering who the Mahatma was.”
He further said, “As far as Assasudin Owaisi’s comment is concerned, I feel this attempt to constantly polarise elections is not going to help Owaisi. He should realise that in Maharashtra, he has a very small footprint. They are going to reject him completely in the election and every attempt to try and wedge between the Hindu and the Muslims is not going to help Owaisi. So he should rather focus on what he has done in the last five years-the few that were elected.”
Earlier on Wednesday, AIMIM president, Asaduddin Owaisi stirred controversy saying that modern-day "Godses" are killing Gandhi's India on a day to day basis. Owaisi was addressing a public rally in Aurangabad on the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. He had said that Godse had shot Gandhi but 'modern-day Godses' were killing India daily. He then requested Gandhian followers to save India.
“Godse (Nathuram) ne toh Gandhi ko goli mari thi, magar maujuda Godse Gandhi ke Hindustan ko khatam kar rahe hain. Jo Gandhi ke maan ne wale hain main unse keh raha hun ki iss watan-e-azeez ko bacha lo (Godse had shot Gandhi, but modern-day Godses are killing off Gandhi's India daily. I request the followers of Gandhi to save this beloved nation),” he said.
Owaisi had also targetted PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for their National Register of Citizens (NRC) decision in Assam and their announcement to implement it in the rest of the country. He said, "Narendra Modi and his Home Minister keep saying that they will bring NRC in India. They are forgetting that there is a Constitution in India.”
