Lauding Prime Minister Narendra Modi for abrogating Article 370, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday said the previous governments never had the courage shown by the "man with 56-inch chest" in integrating Jammu and Kashmir with India's mainstream.

Addressing a rally in Maharashtra's Kolhapur district ahead of the upcoming state polls, he said people should ask Congress and NCP leaders when they come to seek votes, whether they support the NDA government's decision to abrogate Article 370 that gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir.

"Several governments came and went, several prime ministers came and went, no one had the courage to abrogate Article 370. But, the man with the 56-inch chest scrapped it in one go," Amit Shah said.

He held the opposition Congress responsible for the imposition of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir. "(But) after coming to power (for a second term this year), Modiji did something for which the entire country was waiting for 70 years...he abrogated Article 370 on August 5 and joined Jammu and Kashmir with the country's mainstream," Amit Shah said. He also listed various other bold decisions taken by the Modi-led government, including banning the practice of instant triple talaq and conducting a surgical strike and an airstrike after the Uri and Pulwama terror attacks respectively.

Speaking on floods that ravaged Kolhapur and neighbouring Sangli in August, Amit Shah assured people that the Centre and the state government will transform both the districts and make them "even better and beautiful". Amit Shah also appreciated the BJP-led Maharashtra government's 'Jalyukta Shivar' water conservation program. "Because of the state government's Jalyukta Shivar scheme, several villages saw a transformation in watershed management," he added.

Congress takes Kashmir to UK

Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday reiterated PM Modi's stance maintaining that Kashmir is India's internal matter. While addressing a poll rally in Maharashtra, the Home Minister slammed Congress' overseas delegation-led by UK unit chief Kamal Dhaliwal for dragging the Kashmir issue to UK Labor party leaders accompanied by Jeremy Corbyn, who is the leader of Opposition in UK Parliament. Speaking at the rally, Amit Shah asserted that be it US President Donald Trump or any other leader, PM Modi has time-and-again clarified that Kashmir is an internal matter of India and interference will not be accepted from anyone.

"In all these years our stand has been that we don't want interference of any other country on Kashmir issue. Be it the US President or anyone else, Modi ji said in clear words that Kashmir is our internal matter, don't interfere in it," the Home Minister said.

Furthermore, he went on to raise questions at former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi to clear his party's stand on Jammu and Kashmir after his close aide Kamal Dhaliwal raked Kashmir issue to the leader of the UK Labour Party.

"Kamal Dhaliwal, close to Rahul Gandhi, met Jeremy Corbyn (UK Labour Party leader), clicked a picture and said situation not normal in Kashmir. I want to ask Rahul Gandhi, what does your party want to do by discussing matters of the country with foreign leaders? I want to tell Rahul Gandhi to clear his party's stand on Kashmir," Amit Shah added.
