Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday launched a scathing at the Congress party over the communal remarks made by the party leaders over Defence Minister Rajnath Singh's 'Shastra Pujan' of the Rafale aircraft. Addressing a poll rally in Haryana's Kaithal, Amit Shah questioned the Congress party over opposing the 'Shastra Pujan' performed for Rafale jets on the occasion of Dussehra. He called for the Congress party to think about their positions on various matters
"Defence Minister Rajnath Singh performed the Shastra Pujan on the new Rafale aircraft. But, back home, Congress leaders felt very hurt. I am asking you, is 'Shastra Pujan' not performed on Vijayadashami? Say aloud, do we do it or not? Should this tradition be continued or not? Modiji brought in rafale, Rajnath Singh performed Shastra Pujan, but people in Congress are opposing even this. They should think about what should be opposed and what shouldn't be," the Home Minister said.
Speaking at the rally ahead of the Haryana polls, Amit Shah also congratulated Prime Minister Modi and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh over the induction of Rafale jets into the Indian Air Force in order to ensure the security of the nation.
"I want to congratulate the prime minister and the defence minister for inducting the Rafale fighter into the Indian air force and ensuring the security of the nation," Amit Shah added.
An array of Congress leaders opposed the Shastra Pujan performed by the Defence Minister at the Rafale jets in France. Questioning the actions of Rajnath Singh, Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit said the religious context of Vijayadashmi and the Rafale aircraft doesn't match.
"It (Vijayadashmi) is a festival that all of us celebrate. Why do we have to link it with the coming of an aircraft?" the Congress leader had said.
In another instance, newly-inducted Congress leader Alka Lamba mocked the 'Shastra Puja' performed by Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh on the new Rafale aircraft, just before he was about to take off in it for a sortie on Tuesday. Taking to Twitter, Alka Lamba said, "Think now, France made Rafale has not even reached India and the first major success is achieved by squashing two green lemons and saved India from the eyes of the evil."
In another tweet, she tried to give a communal spin to the Puja being performed on the aircraft. She tweeted, "Today if former Defense Minister A.K Antony would have been the Minister of Defense, or former President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam had got this fortune today, would he have taken the Bible and the Quran in his hands and would have done the same according to his religion, which the Defense Minister has done according to his religion? What would have happened?"
As France handed over the first Rafale combat aircraft, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, on Tuesday, performed a Shastra puja at the Merignac airbase in France. As per the visuals, the Defence Minister marked the aircraft with the auspicious symbol - 'Aum' with vermillion. He travelled from Paris to Mérignac to receive the first aircraft out of the 36 fighter jets on behalf of the IAF.
