A day after a train ran over a crowd of people, leading to several casualties, Navjot Kaur Sidhu, who was the chief guest of the event which was happening close to the railway tracks, blamed the victims for the mishap. Navjot Kaur Sidhu said that there were several announcements made but the people near the track didn’t pay heed.

“When I went there it was not like that the police wasn’t there. They were focussed on area that was marked for that. They didn’t know that outside the boundary wall people were standing over there. But of course from the stage only, but once I came it was announced that people on the railway track should move away and shouldn’t make videos standing on the railway track (sic),” said Sidhu.

“They were taking movies, it’s in the video. I don’t talk before I see the video, you can also see the video and you can see who were taking videos, they were standing behind the place where the incident happened and they didn’t react to it. Immediately it didn’t register to anyone that it has happened and I was down the line from where the stage was. You can go and see where the stage was there where Raavan was there, there was no way that I could have looked back where the incident happened. It was not in my vision (sic),” she added.

When she was asked whether permissions were taken for organising the event, Sidhu gave a bizarre theory, saying, “The main reason about this is it’s actually into the Dhobi Ghat and it’s being happening since the past 40 years. So, when people get used to it that it’s been happening over there since a long long time. Every year it happens there. So, I think permissions mein nahi hota. I can’t comment about it anyway because I depend on papers, so I can only talk about it when I have seen the permissions (sic).”

“The exact location of the programme, you can go there and see, was at the Dhobi Ghat, which is not even in the Railways property and it’s a cornered property like people have to jump away from the 5 ft wall to cross over and reach the railway track but people from the other side came. Being a chief guest you just come on time and I was called at 6.30 and I came by around 6.45, so I was called at that time. So, I just gave speech and then they lit the effigy of Raavan and then I left (sic),” she added.

Meanwhile, Shiromani Akali Dal leaders are demanding Navjot Singh Sidhu to step down from the Punjab cabinet. Reacting to SAD’s demand, Navjot Kaur Sidhu said, “Dussehra happens every year and you should be ashamed of putting the blame game. He was not even here. He was doing duty somewhere in Kerala and he was in Bengaluru and he was supposed to go to Vaishno Devi and immediately he rushed to the place. Commenting on that, so that’s not nice (sic).”
