AMU suspends three Kashmiri students for holding a prayer meeting for terrorist Manan Wani

Two days after top Hizbul commander Manan Wani was killed in a gunfight encounter with the security forces in North Kashmir’s Kupwara area, Three Kashmiri students of the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) were suspended after they allegedly tried to hold a prayer meeting for the neutralized terrorist. Manan Wani was AMU research scholar at Department of Geology, however, he left books and picked up guns to fight for terror forces. 

AMU spokesperson and Professor Shafey Kidwai on Friday informed that Some Kashmiri students of the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) had gathered near Kennedy Hall in the campus to hold funeral prayers for Wani, following which the varsity staff and student union rushed to the spot and tried to stop them. 

Wasim Ayub Malik and Abdul Haseeb Mir are named while there are others unidentified but involved in raising anti-national slogans. There was a heated exchange between the AMU Students' Union leaders and the Kashmiri students but they finally moved out of the area.

After which those three Kashmiri students were suspended for trying to hold an unlawful gathering.

Shafey Kidwai also added that the university has made it clear that there was zero tolerance for any act which would even remotely be described as anti-national. AMUSU president Faizul Hasan while speaking to the media shared that had always championed the cause of freedom of speech but any act of treason or terror was unacceptable to the union. He said they will not allow the university to be defamed by any person who indulges in such unlawful activity.

"A Video of the incident is being examined so that others involved are identified,” Aligarh SSP Ajay Kumar Sahani said.

Meanwhile, Human Resource Development Ministry has asked Aligarh Muslim University for a report on the mourning incident in AMU campus over.

On October 11, Manan Wani’s neutralization came as the biggest victory for security forces. Manan who picked up guns and declared war against forces had said that "there is dignity in fighting forces". The mastermind behind terror attacks, he was also the commander and recruiter for Hizbul. His role was to mislead youth and lure them into terror. 

Earlier in January, Manan went missing from AMU and his phone was switched off from January 4. The family tried to contact him but to no avail. Left with no option, the family lodged a missing report with the police. Manan’s brother Mubashir Ahmad informed that the family was completely oblivious about him joining   Hizbul Mujahideen.
