AN-32 Operation: Search team on way to crash-site after being air-dropped and establishing camp

Operations to get to the crash site of the IAF's AN-32 in Arunachal Pradesh proceeded in full swing on Wednesday, with additional resources being mobilized to search for survivors. Four Garud commandos belonging to IAF as a part of the recovery team were airdropped by a helicopter near the crash site and a camp has been established.

Operations to get to the crash site of the IAF's AN-32 in Arunachal Pradesh proceeded in full swing on Wednesday, with additional resources being mobilized to search for survivors. Four Garud commandos belonging to IAF as a part of the recovery team were airdropped by a helicopter near the crash site and a camp has been established.

IAF mobilized 15 personnel for the rescue operation and they are expected to reach the crash site by Wednesday night. The weather of the terrain along with the thick vegetation are hindering the progress of the rescue team as IAF is making all the efforts possible to reach the crash site.

Air Marshal RD Mathur, AOC-in-C, EAC thanked the state administration which, under the personal supervision of Prema Khandu, Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh & Satya Gopal, Chief Secretary, has provided support to IAF during the search operation. 

Earlier on Tuesday, the IAF had confirmed the news giving the precise location of the debris found. It added that an IAF helicopter is undertaking a search in the zone.

The aircraft, which was a transport aircraft of the Indian Air Force, made its last contact with ground sources at 1 PM after taking off from the Jorhat airbase in Assam at 12:25 PM on June 3 with 13 on board. 

The Indian Air Force (IAF) which had initially launched a search operation for the missing aircraft using a Sukhoi-30 combat aircraft and a C-130 Special Ops aircraft, intensified the search in the successive days roping in the help of Indian Army, police, paramilitary forces, and the local population, with the state government also ably assisting.
