Ayodhya verdict: Anand Mahindra salutes SC for 'Extraordinary Courage'

Anand Mahindra admired the five-judge Constitution bench of the Supreme Court for their "extraordinary courage" and their "incredible application of mind".

After the Supreme Court delivered its landmark verdict on the sensitive Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid land dispute on Saturday, Mahindra Group chairman Anand Mahindra admired the five-judge Constitution bench of the Supreme Court consisting of CJI Ranjan Gogoi, SA Bobde, DY Chandrachud, Ashok Bhushan and S Abdul Nazeer for their "extraordinary courage" and their "incredible application of mind". Taking to Twitter, he wrote, "5 men. A decision that 1.3bn people were awaiting. What extraordinary courage it required to be on this bench & what incredible application of mind it must have taken to reach the conclusion. I salute them for doing their duty & upholding the process of justice in our nation."

Hours before the much anticipated Ayodhya verdict, Anand Mahindra took to Twitter to express his opinion about the verdict. Mahindra tweeted, "I will not await this verdict with apprehension. I will pray for a judgment that makes us an even stronger and more united country..."

Ayodhya Verdict: Disputed land to be given to Hindus, holds SC

Pronouncing the landmark judgment in the Ayodhya dispute case, the Supreme Court on Saturday, delivered a unanimous judgment in the title suit of the disputed area awarding it to the Hindu parties for the construction of a temple. It also directed the Centre to come up with a scheme within three months to set up a trust which will hand over the outer courtyard and inner courtyard of the site for construction of a temple. Apart from this, the SC stated that an alternate land of 5 acres is to be allotted to Muslims for the liberty of constructing a mosque, either by the central govt or the State govt, in a suitable and prominent place in Ayodhya. CJI Ranjan Gogoi, while delivering the unanimous judgment, dismissed the claims of the Sunni Central Waqf Board and the Nirmohi Akhara. He also termed that the three-way division of the disputed land by the Allahabad HC in its 2010 verdict is wrong.

Security amped up across the country

Elaborate security arrangements have been made across the country to avoid any untoward incident after the Supreme Court's judgement in the politically-sensitive Ramjanmbhoomi-Babri Masjid land dispute case. All states and UTs have increased the presence of security forces on the streets. Additional forces have been deployed in sensitive areas. All jails have been put on high alert. Necessary arrangements have been made to ensure the safety and security of religious places.
