AP Governor Harichandan hails Indian Red Cross Society's service

Biswa Bhusan Harichandan, while appreciating the contributions of the state branch of the IRCS, said that the youth should be motivated to serve the society

Appreciating the state branch of the Indian Red Cross Society, Biswa Bhusan Harichandan, the Governor of Andhra Pradesh, spoke about youth participation on Monday. While speaking at a programme organised for the presentation of awards of the society, Harichandan said that the youth should be motivated to serve the society.

'Excellent service to society'

He said that the organisation is rendering excellent service to the society by promoting the spirit of service and building awareness about cleanliness, hygiene and green cover, conservation of energy and water and waste management among students. Further, while presenting awards to best performing schools and colleges, he also appreciated the society for successfully being able to motivate youth for the cause.

According to a statement, while congratulating the winners for their contribution to the cause and for their support to the society, Harichandan also spoke about the organisation’s noble cause. He said that the objective of the organisation is to alleviate human suffering by mobilising the power of volunteerism and generosity of donors.

Free of cost services

The Governor, while expressing his happiness, also said that he is glad to learn that the state branch has supplied 30% of blood to needy people at free of cost and the West Godavari district Branch of the society has established an exclusive Thalassemia, Sickle Cell and Hemophilia Transfusion Centre at Eluru and rendering services to the needy persons at free of cost.

Rachel Chatterjee, Chairperson of Andhra Pradesh State Branch of Indian Red Cross Society mentioned that the awards under new categories had been introduced by 2018-19 by conducting Essay writing competition and Elocution competition for students of schools and colleges. The motive behind these was to promote and develop thinking and writing abilities among the students with topics highlighting social problems and issues and to improve their speaking abilities.'

On a related note, the Andhra Pradesh State Branch of IRCS has collaborated with various government departments and agencies and conducted 161 training programmes covering 7661 beneficiaries in the state with the help of Disaster Management department and Youth Services department.
