Article 370 in J&K to go: Ram Madhav calls it a 'glorious day' as government moves to fully integrate Kashmir

In a first reaction from the BJP, it's National General Secretary Ram Madhav has commented over the government's proposal to revoke Article 370, made in Parliament by Home Minister Amit Shah. Calling it a 'glorious day' for India, he expressed his happiness since the country is moving towards integration of Jammu and Kashmir into Indian Union. He then went on to state that the martyrdom of thousands starting with Dr. Shyam Prasad Mukharjee is being honoured and that a seven-decade demand of the country is being realised upon.

DEVELOPMENTS IN THE KASHMIR ISSUE 

Home Minister Amit Shah gave a statement in the Rajya Sabha on Jammu and Kashmir proposing that the Article 370 be abrogated. The Home Minister then went on to state that the government has brought four proposals pertaining to the state before the Parliament. 

The resolution revoking Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir was moved by Home Minister Amit Shah which was then followed by an uproar in the Rajya Sabha, Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu waived the rules of advance notice for speaking on the issue of J&K Reservation Bill. He said the bill and the situation in Kashmir will be discussed together.

One of the proposals is for the bifurcation of J&K into two union territories - J&K and Ladakh, with the former having a legislature and latter not having one.

AHEAD OF AMIT SHAH'S SPEECH 

Ahead of Shah's speech, the Opposition tried to block his address. Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said, "Entire valley is under curfew, political leaders including three former chief ministers are under house arrest. There is a war-like situation in the state, so this should be discussed on priority." TMC's Derek O' Brien also tried to put across his party's view.

PM Narendra Modi on Monday held a meeting of the Cabinet Committee for Security and then a Cabinet meeting. The BJP had issued a whip to all MPs to attend the Parliament sesions in both Houses on August 5 and 7. Meanwhile, senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad called a meeting of all opposition Rajya Sabha members in his chamber to discuss the Kashmir issue at 10.00 am on Monday. Earlier on Monday, Ghulam Nabi Azad and other MPs Anand Sharma, Ambika Soni, and Bhubaneswar Kalita gave Adjournment Motion notice in the Rajya Sabha over the Kashmir issue.
