Arunachal Government asks for a separate cadre for the state

The Arunachal Pradesh government has demanded a separate cadre for itself. Earlier, MLA's across the parties had passed the demand for a separate cadre

The Arunachal Pradesh Government has demanded a separate cadre for itself. The demand comes as the state is allegedly struggling with the lack of 'dedicated bureaucracy'. The retired governor of the state, BD Mishra on Sunday met Minister of State for the Prime Minister's Office, Jitendra Singh and demanded a separate cadre for the state.

'Separate cadre is the need of the hour'

Arunachal Chief Minister Prem Khandu also backed the Governor and said that a separate cadre is the need of the hour and thanked the Governor for taking up the issue.

MLA's across parties demand separate cadre

The BJP-ruled state passed a resolution for a separate cadre on October 1. This is the second time the demand was vetted by the state. Earlier, MLA's across parties had passed the demand for a separate cadre. 

"All development projects suffer because of the temporary service mindset officers come in with," a source said. "Arunachal is a unique case among the AGMUT cadre," said a government official when asked about the situation where all union territories start demanding separate cadres.

The importance of the cadre

Further talking about the importance of a separate cadre for the state the official said the ground situation needs to be understood.

"All the other states/UTs are small in land area. Arunachal is the largest state in North-East and most diverse in terms of the number of tribes. By the time an officer understands the ground situation, their transfer orders come. Also, we have sensitive borders, important government schemes take a lot of time to be implemented."

Arunachal Government asks for a separate cadre for IAS, IPS, and IFS 

According to a statement released by the state government in July 2019, the state government of Arunachal Pradesh had asked for a separate cadre for IAS, IPS, and IFS officers as well.

"The State Government of Arunachal Pradesh, among other State Government, has submitted a proposal for the creation of a separate cadre for IAS / IPS / IFS officers for the State.  Such proposals are examined on the basis consensus amongst the constituents of the Joint Cadre Authority by the Ministry of Home Affairs." read the statement.
