The Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal blamed the bad roads for the poor traffic situation in the capital city and said there was a need to redesign them. CM Kejriwal was speaking at an event when he said that "Traffic situation in Delhi can be improved. Roads in Delhi are broader than some Western countries, but here, a four-lane road converges into a three-lane road at some distance and further expands into a six-lane road, this is where the problem lies".

Abundance of agencies

Arvind Kejriwal during his address highlighted the 'multiplicity of agencies' as the biggest problem in the national capital. He said, "There is a need to redesign the roads. The biggest problem in Delhi is the multiplicity of agencies.” Earlier this month chief minister Arvind Kejriwal had launched a campaign to make Delhi pothole-free which will be undertaken by the Public Works Department under his government. The government in Delhi also prepared software which will have important data related to the roads in the city. The repair work will then make use of this database.

Software for road data

A week earlier the Aam Aadmi Party MLA Saurabh Bhardwaj confirmed that the Public Works Department (PWD) has developed a customised application named 'Commcare' to spot waterlogged, damaged roads in Delhi. Bhardwaj, while speaking to news agency ANI also said that around 50 MLAs and 50 PWD civil engineers will do a survey of 25 kilometres long road stretches each and will inform the authorities about the same through the mobile application.

Arvind Kejriwal speaking about the campaign, stated that "Delhi has few roads under Delhi government (PWD), but millions of vehicles run on them every day. To erase any inconvenience to the public on the roads due to rain, this campaign is being carried out. For the first time, roads are being inspected on such a large scale”.
