In a brief press, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi lambasted the government over the situation in Jammu and Kashmir, citing it to be 'emergency-like.'
He accused the PM Modi-led government of 'loving Kashmir but not Kashmiris' and alleged that they have forgotten Constitutional rights.
He said, "I said, they love Kashmir but not Kashmiris. I had also said that they care about power, not services and that is because is our Article 19 and 21 not applicable there (in Kashmir)? So you will lock up 80 lakh people, is this an emergency? You are reminding us of an emergency. You won't let people use phones? If there is a functional democracy in South Asia, it is India and this is what you're doing here? You are saying everyone is celebrating. Then let people communicate. Where does this happen in the world? Is this the success of our democracy? You can't snatch the fundamental right of Article 19 and 21. This government has forgotten the Constitutional Rights."
Furthermore, the Hyderabad MP stated that he does not care about Pakistan but about the Constitution. Furthermore, said that he has turned thick-skinned over being labeled as an 'anti-national.' Owaisi went on to cite the Supreme Court judgements of 2016 and 2017 wherein Article 370 from the Indian Constitution was cited to be a 'permanent' provision.
He said, "I believe somebody will shoot me someday. Godse's son can do this to me. If Mahatma Gandhi can be shot, who is Owaisi? The President of India signed it without asking the state assembly. I am saying I do not care about Pakistan. This is against the Constitution. I am talking about the Constitution, Nehru and Sardar Patel. I don't care about the allegations. I spoke about the Constitution even in the Parliament. This is a breach of Constitutional promise. There are two Supreme Court judgments of 2016 and 2017, they said it is not a temporary provision it is a permanent provision. Even after this if you want to call me an anti-national then I will feed you sweets from Hyderabad. This climate of the nation wherein whoever goes against Modi will be tagged as an anti-national. I don't care. I have become thick-skinned. I care about India."
"Did the Court say its Constitutional? The case will proceed now. The Court spoke about curfew and everything, did it say anything about the will? Please, you are doing contempt of Supreme Court. You are doing exactly what Rahul Gandhi did," he added.
When questioned over Rahul Gandhi and Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Satya Pal Malik's war of words over a visit to Kashmir valley along with the Opposition delegation, Owaisi said that it was an internal matter of the Congress party. He further pointed out that issues like the 'economy and floods' must be addressed.
He said, "I am an Indian, nobody can stop me. Kashmir is an integral part of India, I will go wherever I want. What will we do going there? We are saying remove the curfew, start communication, release those who are arrested. NSA is going there and you played his video, however, after that the person sitting with him who said if I knew this is the NSA I would have never gone, you are not talking about it. Shops are shut. Is there an emergency there? I request only one thing, the Prime Minister should also follow Constitutionalism, not just the Constitution. They should understand the rule of law, not rule by law. And lastly, power is not eternal, power will end."
"10 lakh jobs will be lost in the auto industry and you are speaking of liberation day, employment is 6%, the expenses and dollar prices are surging. Reliance is selling 20% of its part to Saudi Arabia, and still, we are called anti-nationals. They won't talk about all this. There are floods in the country. You don't want to address the main issues of the country," he added.
