Asaduddin Owaisi, the party chief of All-India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) addressed a press briefing on Wednesday where he criticised the US President, Donald Trump. This came after the US President while making his statement at the India-US bilateral meeting called the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi the 'Father of India’.
Owaisi slammed the US President stating that he is too ill-informed on India to equate the Prime Minister with the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi. Owaisi stated that Mahatma Gandhi had earned the title through ‘sacrifice, kindness and love’ further adding that even Jawaharlal Nehru or Sardar Patel were not given this title.
Owaisi, speaking about Trump, stated that the US President has not studied much, and as a consequence, he has very little knowledge of India or the world. He stated that if he would have known the facts then he would not have made such a statement. Owaisi elucidated that such titles are not given to people, they are ‘earned’. He said that comparing PM Modi to Elvis Presley still makes sense as Presley was a great singer who always managed to gather a crowd. The PM similarly, enunciates great speeches which always manage to get the people’s attention.
Owaisi added that Donald Trump is a dubious man who is playing a ‘double-game’ as he compliments the PM of Pakistan when it serves him, asking him to revive his contacts with Iran, at the same time he asks India to not buy oil from India. In conclusion, Owaisi notified that India must be aware of the ‘game’ the US President is playing.
In his bilateral meeting, US President Trump had waxed lyrical about PM Modi over a number of matters, including the reception he had got at the massive 'Howdy Modi' event in Houston, going on to equate him to Elvis Presley.
