Ayodhya case: Hindu Maha Sabha to complain against Rajeev Dhavan

Senior advocate Rajeev Dhavan was in the news again on the final day of the Ayodhya hearing for his behaviour inside the courtroom. In an act that went 'viral', the Sunni Waqf Board counsel tore off pages of the book 'Ayodhya Revisited' which was sought to be submitted by the Hindu Maha Sabha in court containing a 19th-century map of the disputed site as a Ram Temple. CJI Ranjan Gogoi led 5-judge bench was quite upset at the turn of events inside court reminding all sides that decorum must be maintained.  

Hindu Maha Sabha all set to shoot off a complaint

The Hindu body has taken clear umbrage over Dhavan's actions and is all set to shoot off a complaint to the Bar Council of India, asking for action against the senior lawyer for his actions that 'brought disrepute to the Court.' Republic TV has accessed a copy of the letter which states, 'This is unbecoming of a senior advocate particularly when he represents to a party in a Civil Appeal No. 10866/10.’ (sic) 'There is an expectation of the senior member of the Bar to maintain high standard of professional ethics.' 

The complaint letter then goes on to demand appropriate action by the Bar Council of India. 'It is, therefore, requested to your good self to take cognizance against Dr Rajeev Dhavan, Senior Advocate and take appropriate action against him in accordance with law.'

Verdict in the case will come out before Nov 17

The map Dhavan objected to showed the exact birthplace of Lord Ram through a pictorial depiction in the book written by a former IPS officer. Later when he rose for his final arguments, Dhavan said that he tore the book after the permission of the court. Speaking to Republic TV, Pramod Pandit Joshi, National spokesperson of the All India Hindu Maha Sabha, confirmed that they will file the complaint against Dhavan to the Bar council on Thursday. Counsel for Hindu Maha Sabha, Barun Sinha also condemned his counterpart Dhavan's behaviour.  All arguments by parties in the Ramjamnbhoomi case were concluded on Wednesday and the judgement was reserved. It is expected that the verdict will come out before Nov 17.
