Rajinikanth airs view on Supreme Court's Ayodhya verdict; makes appeal

After the Supreme Court of India unanimously pronounced the verdict in the politically sensitive Ayodhya land title dispute case, Superstar Rajinikanth reacted to it and said that he respects the SC verdict. He reiterated that everyone should accept the apex court’s verdict irrespective of one’s religion. Striving to maintain peace, Rajinikanth, before the verdict on Friday night had also said that "Whatever be the decision, I request the people to maintain peace."

“I respect the SC verdict; all should respect the SC judgement for the development and progress of the country. Irrespective of one's religion, everyone should come together and work towards it.”

Rajinikanth on BJP’s invitation 

Denying the claims that he has been invited to join the BJP party, Rajinikanth said, "In-person they (BJP), didn't invite me to join, they are trying to give me the BJP colour, like how they did with Thiruvallur. They are trying to saffronise me. Neither Thiruvallu nor I will not fall for it," he said. When asked about senior BJP leader Pon Radhakrishnan's recent meeting with him and the former's repeated assertions that the actor should join the party, Rajinikanth said no such has invitation has been made to him. "No offer has been made (from BJP to join the party) ... definitely not," he added.

Ayodhya verdict 

Pronouncing the landmark judgment in the Ayodhya dispute case, the Supreme Court on Saturday, delivered a unanimous judgment in the title suit of the disputed area awarding it to the Hindu parties for the construction of a temple. It also directed the Centre to come up with a scheme within three months to set up a trust which will hand over the outer courtyard and inner courtyard of the site for construction of a temple. Apart from this, the SC stated that an alternate land of 5 acres is to be allotted to Muslims for the liberty of constructing a mosque, either by the central govt or the State govt, in a suitable and prominent place in Ayodhya. CJI Ranjan Gogoi, while delivering the unanimous judgment, dismissed the claims of the Sunni Central Waqf Board and the Nirmohi Akhara. He also termed that the three-way division of the disputed land by the Allahabad HC in its 2010 verdict is wrong.
