On Saturday, the Constitution bench of the Supreme Court comprising Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, Justices SA Bobde, DY Chandrachud, Ashok Bhushan and S Abdul Nazeer delivered a unanimous judgment awarding the 2.77 acres disputed territory in Ayodhya to the Hindu parties. Both the ruling BJP and the main opposition party Congress welcomed the verdict. However, certain sections of the polity such as Asaduddin Owaisi expressed their displeasure even after the SC's detailed judgment. Republic Media Network's Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami has weighed in on this.

Here’s Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami's take on the matter:

“Good evening and welcome, ladies and gentlemen on a day which is truly historic. Now, the only people unhappy with the very very historic verdict are the following which I can bracket broadly in three categories. Ladies and gentlemen, number one- Asaduddin Owaisi. Asaduddin Owaisi who in a press conference today has said that the Supreme Court may be supreme, but it is not infallible forgetting to add that he is neither supreme nor he is infallible. Number two, ladies and gentlemen, among those who are unhappy, groups such as the Popular Front of India who are going to be unemployed now. Because if there is no Hindu-Muslim battle, then who will they represent? And thirdly, ladies and gentlemen, the sulking pseudos which by the way, is my hashtag for debate number two. Sulking pseudos- use it liberally. Now, who are the sulking pseudos? These are the people who have lived on the crumbs thrown at them by people who believe who are secular but are anything but that. When in reality they are no different than the Owaisis. The sulking pseudos are deeply unhappy today because they don’t know what’s the next for them. The sulking pseudos today are unhappy because the RSS chief has not said- no, you cannot build a mosque in Ayodhya. The question was thrown at him, but he never said that. The sulking pseudos want a fight. They are unhappy because neither is the BJP nor the RSS hitting the streets tomorrow now demanding temples in Kashi and Mathura by replacing mosques. No, that’s why the sulking pseudos are unhappy. The sulking pseudos- many of whom have unfortunately proliferated the media are as much an enemy of the nation as those who want to write the chapter of next Hindu-Muslim conflict. Hindu-Muslim conflict- a conflict which we believe after today’s Ayodhya verdict, which we hope and which we know after today’s historic Ayodhya verdict is now history.”

SC verdict

The SC in its verdict also directed the Centre to formulate a scheme within three months which will be responsible for building a temple. On the other hand, the SC ordered that an alternative land of five acres in Ayodhya would be given to the Sunni Central Waqf Board for the construction of a mosque. Moreover, the claims put forth by Nirmohi Akhara and the Sunni Central Waqf Board were dismissed. The court concluded that the three-way bifurcation by the Allahabad High Court was “legally unsustainable”.
