Back-to-back success for Kolkata Police STF; Racketeer arrested

In a major success in curbing fake currency, Kolkata Police's STF arrested one Bihar based Fake Indian Currency Note racketeer near the iconic Eden Gardens.

In a major success in curbing fake currency, the Anti-Fake Indian Currency Notes team of Kolkata Police's Special Task Force arrested one Bihar based Fake Indian Currency Note racketeer near the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata. According to the STF, they acted on credible source information and nabbed a 23-year-old male racketeer in Gosta Pal Sarani. The male was identified as Vikash Kumar Das and hailed from Bihar's Chhapra district.

STF recovers Fake Indian Currency Notes

As the A/FICN squad of STF searched him, Rs. 5,00,000/- (lakhs) of fine quality of Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) were recovered and seized from his possession. 250 pieces of fake Rs 2000 fine quality notes were recovered. A case by STF has been lodged under 120B/489B/489C IPC. The accused is to be produced before the Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Kolkata on Tuesday.

This comes following a drug bust by the STF on Saturday. The Special Task Force (STF) of Kolkata Police arrested a man and seized heroin worth Rs 10 lakh from a drug peddler of Saturday. According to police, STF officials were tipped off that a drug peddler from Mandsaur in Madhya Pradesh was in the city and would to meet someone on Strand Road in the evening. Fighting the bad weather, officials spotted a man around 6 pm on the footpath opposite the office of Shipping Corporation of India.

The police found a packet that contained some kind of powder after they suspected him to be the dealer and searched him. The man was identified as a 43-year-old certain Bharat Rao who was detained and brought to Lalbazar, which is also the Kolkata Police HQ. As he was interrogated, he confessed that he was peddling heroin.

West Bengal police STF

The West Bengal government had set up a counter-terrorism unit Special Task Force (STF) for West Bengal Police, which is headquartered in Kolkata. The STF has a mandate to deal in offences related to terrorism, FICN, narcotics, arms, ammunition and explosives, money laundering and sedition. The organization has been extremely successful in nabbing high profile terrorists related to international terror outfits as well as curb drug peddling in the state.
