Bengaluru: IT raid on G Parmeshwara's properties continues on Day 2

The income tax raids continue on the premise of Siddhartha Medical College in Bengaluru. The college is run by a trust related to Congress leader and former deputy CM of the state G Parmeshwara. According to a statement by the Director-General of the income tax, a total of Rs. 4.52 crore has been recovered in the IT raids since Thursday. 

30 places in Bengaluru and Tumakuru linked to the senior Congress leader and former Deputy CM were searched. According to the officials, the raids are in connection with an alleged multi-crore tax evasion case linked to NEET medical entrance exams. Besides raiding the office, residence and institutions belonging to Parameshwara, the I-T officials also searched the residence of his brother G Shivaprasad and personal assistant Ramesh, sources in the department said. The Deputy CM's family runs the Siddhartha Group of Institutions, which was established by his father HM Gangadharaiah 58 years ago.

Tax raids and inquiries against Congress leaders

This is not a first of its kind Income Tax raid or search on a Congress leader. Last month, ED took the former Karnataka Minister DK Shivakumar into custody for interrogating him in an alleged money laundering case against him. India's former Home Minister and senior Congress leader, P Chidambaram is also lodged in the Tihar Jail for his alleged involvement in the INX Media money laundering case where there were irregularities in Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) clearance granted to the INX Media group for receiving overseas funds of Rs. 305 crore in 2007 when Chidambaram was the Finance Minister of the country.
