Bengaluru man harasses woman, tells her to wear 'proper' clothes

In an incident that was caught on camera and put on FB, a Bengaluru man can be seen telling a girl that her clothes are improper and 'against the Indian rules'

A video of Bengaluru man berating a young techie from Mumbai for wearing shorts has gone viral. The techie was out shopping with her boyfriend at night in Bengaluru's HSR district when the man stopped the bike she was on, and started berating her for how she was dressed. The yet unidentified man told he techie that she “must wear proper clothes.”

Bengaluru techie targeted

Her boyfriend, who is also a resident of HSR Layout, parked his bike near the sidewalk and demanded the man to get off his vehicle too. He then started shooting the video in which the man, when asked if the woman should not wear the clothes she was wearing, said, "No, I am educated and I know."

'Please wear proper clothes'

“Don’t you have any other clothes at home?” the man yelled at the woman.

He further said, “You must follow Indian rules. Please wear proper clothes.” The woman’s boyfriend, who was behind the camera, can be heard shouting back at the man saying “I know the Constitution? Do you know the Constitution? We have the freedom to wear whatever we want.”

The woman, while talking to a media portal said that she wanted to file a police complaint but strongly felt that even the police would not support her.

However, this is not the first time such an incident has been reported in Bengaluru. In an incident that came to light in May this year, four men harassed a woman and attacked her boyfriend in Banaswadi, when they went for a ride at night. The men asked the couple what they were up to at midnight and molested the woman and threw stones at the guy when told that it was none of their business.
