In a massive victory for the security forces, all the terrorists affiliated with the proscribed terror outfit Hizbul Mujahideen-led by Burhan Wani have been neutralised in the Kashmir Valley in J&K on Friday.
Jammu and Kashmir Police and the security forces carried out a cordon and search operation (CASO) in the Adkhara Village in Imam Sahab area of the Shopian district, based on credible inputs.
During searches, heavy exchange of firing took place between terrorists and the search party of the forces. The fierce battle took place for over 7 hours, during which top Hizbul Mujahideen commanders Tariq Malvi and Lateef Tiger were killed in the Shopian district. Lateef Tiger was one of the last surviving members of the Hizbul gang-led by Burhan Wani in the Valley.
"In the ensuing encounter, three terrorists were killed and the bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter. The three killed terrorists have been identified as Lateef Ahmad Dar alias Tiger of Dogripora Pulwama, Tariq Ahmad Sheikh alias Mufti Waqas of Moolu Chitragam Shopian and Shariq Ahmad Nengroo of Chotigam Shopian," the offical statement of the J&K police said.
During the search operation, incriminating material including arms & ammunition were also recovered from the site of encounter.
Meanwhile, the Police has registered a case and the incriminating materials have been taken in case records to probe their complicity in other terror crimes.
The police have requested the civilians not to venture inside the encounter zone since such an area can prove dangerous due to stray explosive materials.
"People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosive materials if any," the statement further read.
Earlier in April, two Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists were gunned down by security forces in a brief gunfight in South Kashmir's Anantnag district. The exchange of fire between militants and security forces took place in Bagender Mohalla of Bijbehara in Anantnag district.
