'Biggest threat to India is our internal divisiveness' says Anand Mahindra on Gujarat exodus

While an exodus-like situation still exists in Gujarat where non-Gujaratis, especially migrant workers from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar are fleeing the state following the rape of a 14-month-old girl by a Bihar man, Chairman of Mahindra Group, Anand Mahindra on Tuesday has reacted to the ongoing violence in Gujarat leading to a divisive political situation in the country.

The business tycoon took it to his Twitter account to share his opinion on the mass exodus in Gujarat stating that ‘it is our internal divisiveness that is the biggest threat to India”. Later, arguing that we cannot blame political leaders in the situation, he urged the people to stand as a united nation with his tweet. Have a read:

He further replied to one of the netizens response on his tweet in which he regarded the Bangladeshis as ‘illegal migrants’ and blamed them for entering our country and taking our jobs. Anand Mahindra gave a befitting reply to the dilemma of the Twitterati suggesting the need to fight such mindset in which we term someone from another state in our country as ‘immigrant’.

These statements have come from the Executive Chairman of M&M group in the wake of the continuous attack on thousands of migrant workers from Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan. Gujarat police have so far arrested more than 300 people from various parts of Gujarat for allegedly attacking the non-Gujarati migrant workers hailing from parts of North India.

Earlier on Tuesday, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati had urged political parties to end the blame game due to the violence in Gujarat. She underscored that the Gujarat government should take strict action against those involved in the incident because north Indians are "not foreigners".

In her statement, Mayawati said, “There is no point of accusing each other. North Indians are not foreigners; they are citizens of our country. I appeal to the Gujarat government to take stringent action against the accused instead of doing politics on this matter”.
