Bihar: 2 minors die in stampede during Chhath Puja celebrations

As India celebrated Chhath Puja on November 2, in an unfortunate incident, 2 minors died in the Aurangabad region of Bihar in a stampede during the Puja

On the occasion of Chhath Puja, two minors were killed in a stampede that occurred during the celebrations of Puja in the Suryanagari Dev area of the Aurangabad district in Bihar on Saturday.

According to the reports, the two deceased included a six-year-old boy from Patna's Bihta and a 1.5 year-old-girl, resident of Bhojpur. Other devotees are also believed to have sustained injuries during the incident. Upon hearing the news of the stampede, the security officials deployed in the area sprung into action to control any further incidents of injury or harm.

Post the incident, District Magistrate Rahul Ranjan Mahiwal and Superintendent of Police (SP) Deepak Barnwal met with the families of two deceased children and offered their condolences The officers ensured an ex-gratia to the family members and also assured to take necessary preventive measures so an incident like this does not reoccur.

Chhath Puja Celebrations

Lakhs of devotees from across the country congregated at rivers, dams, ponds and other water bodies to offer "Arghya" to the setting sun on the occasion of Chhath puja on Saturday. The festival will conclude with the devotees offering "Arghya" to the rising sun on Sunday. Thousands of devotees also assembled in the ghats of the river Koel in Palamau to observe the festivity to worship the sun god. The administration had made necessary arrangements for the devotees at different water bodies all over the country. To ensure safe celebrations, railways had launched multiple special trains and also added additional coaches in some trains on different routes.

PM Modi and other leaders extend Chhath Puja wishes

On the occasion of Chhath Puja, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other political leaders like Lalu Prasad Yadav, Amit Shah, and Arvind Kejriwal also extended their wishes on the auspicious occasion.

 PM Modi took to Twitter to extend his wishes on the auspicious occasion. Take a look at his tweet,


Home Minister Amit Shah extended his wishes and said, "Heartfelt greetings to all the countrymen of 'Chhath Puja', the great festival of sun worship and public faith."


Former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav also took to Twitter to wish everyone on Chhath Puja. He wrote,  said, "Heartfelt greetings to all of you on Mahaparva Chhath Puja, symbol of folk faith, sun worship and the world's largest fully eco-friendly, egalitarian and socialist thinking."
