Purushottam Lal Rajak was an employee of the Ordnance factory in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh from where the ex-armourer stole the discarded AK-47 rifles and supplied them to the Maoists.

Gang member Imran was arrested from Jamalpur railway station in Bihar by the police while he was carrying the AK-47s in his bag. His relative Shamsher was also arrested for being involved in the racket after his statement was recorded by the police. Purushottam Lal Rajak also confessed that he used to reassemble the parts of the AK-47s and supply them to their arms agents who would further supply them to the Maoists.
