Bihar to get separate medical colleges to promote medical education

Government of Bihar will be setting up separate medical universities to promote medical education in the state, the Deputy CM of Bihar said on Monday.

The government of Bihar will be setting up a separate medical university to promote medical education in the state. On Monday, the  Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar, Sushil Kumar Modi said that to encourage medical education in the state the government is planning to create a separate medical science university. He added that Rs 9,622 crore has been allocated to the health department's budget for 2019-20 which is 23 per cent more than the previous year's budget. At a function for the first anniversary of the Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, he claimed that Rs 92 crore has been spent on treating 93,448 people under the Pradhan Mantri   scheme in the state.

11 new medical colleges under construction: Sushil Kumar Modi

While sharing the number of hospitals registered under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana scheme, the Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar said that 712 hospitals in Bihar and 16,027 hospitals in the country have been joined under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana scheme. Also, 27.87 lakh golden cards have been given to people in Bihar where the golden card allows citizens to avail health facilities under the scheme. Sushil Kumar Modi also added that the process to build 11 new medical colleges in the state have begun and the medical college building in Madhepura will be ready by November 2019 with hospitals in Purnia and Chapra are under construction.  The director of AIIMS, Patna, PK Singh has claimed that 1,026 patients have been treated under Ayushman Bharat scheme at AIIMS, Patna in the past one year.

Encephalitis outbreak in Bihar

Over 100 children in Bihar lost their life after consuming toxic litchi fruit which was infested with a virus. The patients showed symptoms that were similar to that of Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) which is a lethal brain disease. Bihar's Muzaffarpur district was one of the litchi growing areas in the state where more than 100 children died due to acute encephalitis syndrome (AES). Bihar Health Minister Mangal Pandey said that the best way to avoid the spread of such diseases is through 'awareness', adding that if there is enough awareness, there won't be any hypoglycemia.
