The BJP in Chhattisgarh has demanded a CBI probe after Bheema Mandavi, a BJP MLA, lost his life in the Maoist attack on his convoy in Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh on Tuesday.

Demanding a CBI probe into the incident, BJP leaders in the state alleged that Mandavi was killed by the Maoists under a conspiracy by the Congress. They also lashed out at Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel for his “bullet for bullet" remark after the attack.

CM Baghel on Tuesday had tweeted that he has ordered to take action against the Maoists in the 'language' they understand.

Chattisgarh BJP in-charge Anil Jain said:

“Since the time Bhupesh Baghel’s government came to power, law and order has been destroyed in the state. They came to power after making deals with the Maoist. They are destroying the peace of the state. There should be a CBI probe in the incident. Our MLA has been killed. Political leaders are being targeted in order to take revenge from them. For few votes, they conspired with the Maoist to kill our MLA. This is shameful.”

However, the Congress leaders rejected the charge, alleging that the Maoists spread their wings from three districts to 13 districts in the last 15 years in the state because of the wrong policies of the BJP government under chief minister Raman Singh.

At the other hand, Dantewada DGP AM Awasthi and DG Naxal Operations Girdhari Nayaksaid that they warned the BJP MLA about the unsafe road and alleged that the MLA took the Dantewada-Sukma road at his own will.

"At 3:50 local Cop spoke to the MP telling him that the route he was taking is not safe to travel, so he should not go from there. However, he still went through the way, they said."

Dantewada is in the Bastar Lok Sabha constituency, which will go to polls in the first phase on April 11. Chhattisgarh Chief Electoral Officer Subrat Sahu, via video-conferencing, held a meeting with the collectors and superintendents of police of the affected districts covering phases 1 and 2 and instructed them to take the utmost precaution over the coming days. However, he said that there will be no change in election schedule.

"Polling will go on as per schedule," EC officials said quoting Sahu.

The Maoists had given a call for boycotting polls a few days ago, threatening people with dire consequences if they cast their votes.
