Delhi Congress chief Sheila Dixit responded to the news of Priyanka Gandhi-Vadra's appointment as Congress General Secretary for Uttar Pradesh. She also reacted to BJP calling the move a failure of Rahul Gandhi and part of dynastic politics.
"This decision is a good decision, it is a welcome decision. BJP is feeling shaken-up hence they are making such comments," she said. She also said
Rahul Gandhi is the president of the party, Priyanka Gandhi is looking after Uttar Pradesh," she said.
Moments after Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was formally inducted into the Congress party as its General Secretary for Uttar Pradesh East, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) termed it as the failure of party president Rahul Gandhi ahead of the Lok Sabha polls.
Addressing the reporters on Wednesday, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra launched a scathing attack on the Congress president, accusing the party of 'dynasty rule' in the political landscape.
"It has been assured by the way Congress has publicly declared the failure of Rahul Gandhi, who was the president of the party, with appointing Priyanka Gandhi, member of their own family, that he needs support to fight the elections. This is a huge thing. He has been getting snubbed by the Mahaghathbandhan from every state, there has been a difference within the Mahagathbandhan. It has been proved that Rahul Gandhi needs support," he said.
Earlier on Wednesday, while exclusively to Republic TV, senior BJP leader Chandra Kumar Bose also came hard at the Congress party for promoting one-party politics.
"It is quite expected (Priyanka Gandhi joining politics). Congress is a dynastic dictatorship. It is consisting of people from one particular family who calls the shots. In fact, we were expecting that Priyanka Gandhi will join much earlier. I think she has joined a bit late in the day. Today, Congress has a heritage. Congress has a national tradition," he said.
The party had announced about appointing Priyanka Gandhi-Vadra Congress General for Uttar Pradesh (East), on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Jyotiraditya Scindia, who lost the Chief Minister's seat from Madhya Pradesh to senior party Kamal Nath during the assembly election, has been appointed as the General Secretary for Uttar Pradesh West. Ghulam Nabi Azad has been appointed as the GS for Haryana. The appointment letter has been officially signed by Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot.
