The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and MP of Uttara Kannada Anant Kumar Hegde on Monday has called the 2009-batch bureaucrat and IAS officer Sasikanth Senthil as 'Rajadroha' (traitor) just days after he resigned as deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada. S Sasikanth Senthil was the second bureaucrat to resign. Earlier, another IAS officer, Kannan Gopinathan, resigned from the Dadra and Nagar Haveli administration after the abrogation of Article 370 by the Central government in Jammu and Kashmir.

Anant Kumar Hegde's reaction

Former Union Minister Hegde posted a video on Twitter, alleging that the officer is a fascist and called him a traitor. Senthil submitted his resignation from the service on September 6 and wrote an open letter calling out the government to be compromised. Senthil also said he felt the coming days will present extremely difficult challenges to the basic fabric of the nation and that he will be better off outside the IAS to continue work at making life better for all.

Reacting to the letter, Hegde tweeted on Sunday saying, The state government should realize that it should have sacked him after he opened his polluted mindset against the Union Government.  But cajoling this #Gaddar to return, amounts to treacherous act against the Nation. @BSYBJP"

IAS officer S Sasikanth Senthil resigns

Karnataka IAS officer S Sasikanth Senthil submitted his resignation from service on September 6, telling friends in a letter that the 'fundamental building blocks of democracy are being compromised in an unprecedented manner'. Senthil was the Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner. Though Senthil stated it was a personal decision, he said, "The people and the public representatives of Dakshina Kannada (DK) have been extremely kind to me and I owe an apology to them for discontinuing the job vested on me midway," he said in the letter. He said the resignation was not in any way connected to any event or a particular person.

Another IAS officer resigns 'Kashmir unrest'

Last month, another IAS officer, Kannan Gopinathan, resigned from service because of restrictions imposed in Jammu and Kashmir. Gopinathan held the post of Secretary of Power, Urban Development and Agriculture departments in the Dadra and Nagar Haveli administration. Later, sources stated that Gopinath faced disciplinary action based on his 'Dereliction of duty' following his resignation. In January, IAS officer Shah Faesal, who had been in the limelight since becoming the first Kashmiri to top the exam in 2009, resigned to protest the 'unabated' killings in Kashmir and the marginalisation of Indian Muslims. He subsequently formed a political party, called the J&K Peoples Movement.
