Amid the Shiv Sena and BJP tussle over government formation in Maharashtra, BJP leader Lal Prasad asked the Shiv Sena to prove its majority as the Shiv Sena has decided to part ways with NDA alliance. Shiv Sena was asked by Governor Bhagat Singh Koshiyari to express its ability for government formation. Shiv Sena also hinted at getting support from Congress and NCP owing to the current political situation in Maharashtra.

'Shiv Sena should prove their majority'

"Shiv Sena should prove their majority if they can. We have cleared our stand yesterday. We have refused to form the government as Shiv Sena declined to support us. Now, Shiv Sena should tell its future strategy," he said.

Shiv Sena also hinted at getting support from Congress and NCP owing to the current political situation in Maharashtra. Meanwhile, the NCP has asserted it will take a decision after the Congress announces its decision.  Shiv Sena senior leader, Sanjay Raut on Monday said that the BJP "insulted" people's mandate by not abiding by the "50:50" formula which, he claimed, was decided before the Lok Sabha polls.

'BJP's arrogance that it would sit in the opposition but not share the Chief Minister's post has led to this situation'

"The BJP's arrogance that it would sit in the opposition but not share the chief minister's post has led to this situation...if the BJP is not willing to implement its promise, then there is no meaning in staying with the alliance," he further added.

Ever since the results of the Maharashtra General Assembly were declared, the BJP and Shiv Sena have been at loggerheads over who will get what portfolio. Shiv Sena has been demanding BJP to respect a '50-50' seat-sharing formula to form the government while the BJP had insisted Devendra Fadnavis will return as CM.
