In a statement which is sure to rake controversy, BJP MP Udit Raj on Tuesday downplayed the importance of the #MeToo campaign, stating there should be 'time limit' for women to file the case.

Speaking exclusively to Republic TV on a campaign which has allowed women to come out and open up about the harassment they have faced, he said,

"I am saying that there should be case by case and there should be some limit. May be somebody had engineered, somebody had planted it. What will happen then, the person’s reputation is gone which can never be repaired."

Not stopping there, Udit Raj further went onto indirectly question Tanushree Dutta for accusing Nana Patekar of sexual misconduct and harassment after a period of 10 years.

"I still say, I am saying it that casting couch is there, exploitation by male is there. Suppose, a person like an actress, who is free, who has a freedom, has a choice, who can take decision, only after 10 years suddenly getting awakened out of the slumber and slap the charges. I am not saying the case is false, I am not saying the case is true. Suppose tomorrow Nana Patekar is exonerated, his reputation is gone, he is a film star," he added.

The BJP MP did not speak much about the number of harassment allegations charged against Minister of State for External Affairs, MJ Akbar, though, did state that his case is similar to that of Nana Patekar.

During his interaction with Republic TV, the MP from Delhi also accused a section of women for misusing campaigns like #MeToo and making up cases.

"Don’t you see hundreds of honey-trapping cases where women are involved. There are 100 cases of live-in relationships, happily living for years together. After that, differences take place, one of them goes to jail, men go to jail. I am saying there are cases of misuse also. Even in SC/ST act and dowry, I said the same thing, what I am saying. You are saying one woman is showing courage. There are hundreds of cases of extortion, honey-trapping and live-in relationship. How can you say every woman is perfect?
