The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday nominated senior national spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi to late Arun Jaitley's Rajya Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh. According to reports, he will file his nomination on Friday from the BJP legislature party office in Lucknow. Along with this, the party also nominated former Lok Sabha MP Satish Chandra Dubey to Ram Jethmalani's Rajya Sabha seat in Bihar. The two seats in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar fell vacant after the death of the two former Union Ministers - Arun Jaitley and Ram Jethmalani. According to reports, the polling for the Rajya Sabha seat is set to take place on October 16.
About Sudhanshu Trivedi
After becoming a close aide to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh when the latter became the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh in 2000, Trivedi served as an Information and Political advisor to Singh when he took over as the BJP president. According to reports, Trivedi is known for his debate skills and analysis of socio-political issues. He was also a part of the four-member committee responsible for the campaign during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

About Satish Chandra Dubey
According to reports, the former Lok Sabha MP Satish Chandra Dubey sought a Lok Sabha ticket from Valmiki Nagar in Bihar in 2019 general election. However, he was denied a ticket. Later on, he had announced that he would contest the Lok Sabha election from the seat as an independent candidate. However, according to reports, he was convinced by the top party not to contest the elections. He is now nominated to Ram Jethmalani's Rajya Sabha seat in Bihar.

Arun Jaitley and Ram Jethmalani
Veteran BJP leader and Former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley passed away at the age of 66 on August 24 after being on life support for almost a week. He was admitted to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi on August 9 after complaining of breathlessness and restlessness. He represented Uttar Pradesh in Rajya Sabha, and his term was valid till April 2, 2024.
Prolific lawyer and politician Ram Jethmalani passed away at the age of 95 at his official residence in New Delhi. He represented Bihar in the Upper House as Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) candidate. His term was valid until July 7, 2022.
