BJP national spokesperson Nalin Kohli urged former Congress president Rahul Gandhi to apologise to the country. He mentioned that the Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad had also made the same demand. Maintaining that the decision to procure Rafale jets was in the national interest, he lambasted Gandhi for using intemperate language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi without facts. Kohli cited the Supreme Court order which asked Gandhi to be more careful in the future.

Nalin Kohli said, “Today, the country’s Law Minister has categorically demanded that Congress party should apologise, Rahul Gandhi should apologise. The decision was taken in national interest to fulfill the requirements of the Air Force. What kind of a comment is this based on lies? To talk against the Prime Minister on such an issue without facts, away from the truth. Now, the court has also said that he should think properly and talk. Should he not apologise to the nation?”

SC cautions Rahul Gandhi

The SC bench led by Chief Justice Gogoi reserved its verdict on the Rafale review pleas in May earlier this year. While pronouncing the judgment on Thursday, Justice Kaul said that the court found "no merit" in the review petitions. In the same order, the court discharged Rahul Gandhi from the contempt proceedings. However, the court noted that the judiciary should not be dragged into the political discourse. Highlighting that Gandhi is a person holding an important position in politics, the bench asked him to be more careful in the future.

The judgment read, "We do believe that persons holding such important positions in the political spectrum must be more careful. As to what should be his campaign line is for a political person to consider. However, this Court or for that matter no court should be dragged into this political discourse valid or invalid, while attributing aspects to the Court which had never been held by the Court. Certainly Mr. Gandhi needs to be more careful in future."
