More than 50 days after the Centre abrogated Article 370 that gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir, BJP's National General Secretary Ram Madhav has said that people detained in the state are kept respectfully. Refuting the claims of the Opposition, Madhav in an event on Monday said that people who are detained were done so in view of law and order. Calling it preventive custody, he said that, only 200-250 people have been detained. He said that it is the reason that there is peace in Kashmir for two months.

“Today in Jammu and Kashmir only 200-250 people are under preventive detention in view of the law and order. They have been kept under preventive detention respectfully, some in five-star guest houses, some in five-star hotels,” Madhav said during an event on Monday. “I would also like to say that 200-250 people have been put under preventive detention and there has been peace in Kashmir for two months. You can understand what do the people of Kashmir want and what these 200-250 people want,” he said.

PM Modi's Naya Kashmir pitch

Introducing a new slogan in poll-bound Maharashtra, Prime Minister Narendra said: "You were sloganeering that Kashmir is ours. Now there will be a new slogan- 'Ab hume naara lagana hai, Hindustaniyo ne Kashmir banana hai. Kal tak kehte the Kashmir humara hai, ab har Hindustani kahega hume naya Kashmir banana hai.' ( We used to say Kashmir is ours, now we will say all Indians will build a new Kashmir). The problems suffered by Kashmiris for 40 years due to the wrong policies of the previous governments, it’s time to rid them of those problems. We have to embrace every Kashmiri and we have to convert Kashmir into a paradise again."

Current situation of Kashmir

Meanwhile, the Centre has stated that the situation in Kashmir is slowly being restored back to normalcy. On Sunday, the weekly flea market in Srinagar had attracted a large number of vendors, who set up their stalls, in spite of various main markets and other business establishments still shut, according to PTI. While traffic has been seen increasing in the Valley, public transport is still not functional, as informed by authorities. While landline connections have been restored completely, internet and cell connections too have been restored to most parts of the Valley, according to Kashmir administration. The state administration has been giving regular reports about medical facilities functional in the Valley. However, main leaders of the valley are still under preventive detention. While Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti are under preventive custody, Farooq Abdullah has been booked under PSA.
