Boman Kohinoor and his surprising connection with the British Royals

Mumbai's iconic restauranteur Boman Kohinoor passed away on September 25, 2019. Boman was the co-owner of Iranian Parsi cafe Britannia & Co at Ballard Pier, Mumbai. He passed away at Mumbai's Parsee General Hospital and was 97. Kohinoor was the face of Britannia & Co restaurant for decades. His loss will affect the staff and people who visited the restaurant alike.

Boman Kohinoor's love for the British Royals

Boman Kohinoor, at the age of 20, took over the restaurant from his father who originally founded Britannia & Co in 1923. Boman termed himself as the British Royal Family's fan number 1. He wrote letters to Queen Elizabeth II inviting her to his iconic restaurant. Kohinoor wrote letters regularly to the Queen over the years. He received a signed letter from the Royal Queen thanking him for his sweet gesture which he framed in his restaurant. A life-size cut-out of the Queen had been sent to him around the celebration of the Queen's 75th jubilee. The gentleman had had the cut-out framed in his restaurant.

After this incident, many British tourists reportedly started visiting Britannia & co to meet Boman Kohinoor and try out the restaurant's famous berry pulao. Boman was often seen chatting with the visitors, cracking jokes and recommending what they should order. In 2016, Kohinoor was invited by Prince William and Kate Middleton for a meet at The Taj Mahal Palace, Mumbai. This invitation came after a video of Boman sharing his love for the Royal Family went viral in India.
