"BRD Hospital Tragedy Blown Out Of Proportion", CM Yogi Adityanath Blames "internal Politics" For The Death Of 60 Infants

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has said that the "internal politics" at BRD Medical College and Hospital in Gorakhpur is to be blamed for the deaths of 60 infants last year. He added that the incident was a result of politics and not a single child died due to lack of oxygen supply. 

Speaking at a function in Lucknow on Saturday, CM Adityanath said,"Last year there were reports that 60 infants died at the BRD medical college due to lack of oxygen supply. If the Children died because of lack of Oxygen, the children on the ventilator would have died first. Where have these numbers come from?  I asked around and came to know that it was a result of the internal politics of a medical college. I saw how a negative matter was blown out of proportion".

"After this incident, we counsel the doctors to deal with this issue. I was the first to raise the issue of encephalitis in the Parliament after becoming the Member of Parliament from Gorakhpur. Our government has ensured that proper cleanliness is maintained in all encephalitis affected districts. If you notice, the death figure has come down as compared to last year. Before us no government focused on this issue," he added. 

Earlier, In a shocking revelation, at least 60 children lost their lives at the government operated BRD Medical College hospital in Gorakhpur due to disruption in oxygen supply. After the incident, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath informed that more beds, ventilators and other important equipment for treatment of Encephalitis have been installed in BRD Medical College hospital.

He also laid foundation stones of various projects worth over 37 crores at the BRD Medical College. The new project includes:

  • 125-bed night shelter
  • Installation of an electronic security system
  • Upgradation of a fire hydrant system
  • Renovation of 10 hospital wards and building of a labour complex
