  • CM Captain Amarinder Singh said that it is Sidhu's way of thinking, when he agreed to attend the Kartarpur Corridor ceremony in Pakistan
  • He personally felt that the Centre should have been sensitive towards Indian soldiers and citizens before agreeing to send Minister's to Pakistan

Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Monday said Navjot Singh Sidhu’s decision to go to Pakistan for their ground-breaking ceremony of Kartarpur Corridor was “his way of thinking” but he personally could not think of going there while Indian soldiers and civilians were being killed by them.

He said that as an Army man, he could not tolerate the innocent killings, pointing out that even today an Indian army personnel was killed by Pakistani snipers. He could not go to the neighbouring country in these circumstances, he said, in an informal chat with media persons after laying the foundation stone for Kartarpur Corridor.

Captain said that although it is the Central Government’s decision to send Minister’s to Pakistan ceremony, he personally felt that they should have been a bit sensitive to the feelings of Indian soldiers and citizens. The Congress leader said that the Centre cannot shut its eyes to the happenings in the country as a result of Pakistan’s policy and backing to terror-organizations.

He further said that the world is aware of Pakistan’s role in perpetrating terrorism in India, as a manifest in the attacks in Pathankot, 26/11, Dina Nagar and of course, Jammu and Kashmir. He reiterated his stand that till the cycle of violence unleashed by Pakistan against India came to stop, he would not travel to the neighbouring country.

While Captain clears his stand of rejecting the invite of Pakistan government to attend the ceremony, Congress leader from Punjab, Navjot Singh Sidhu accepted the request with "with unalloyed joy" and also mentioned that this is the first step by both the nations, and said that 'Kartarpur Spirit possibly breaks the barriers of history, opening the borders of the heart and mind.'

“As our two nations take this first step, the Kartarpur Spirit can make pilgrims of us all, venturing out on a journey that breaks the barriers of history and opens the borders of the heart and the mind. A journey that our people can walk together towards, a future of shared peace and prosperity for India and Pakistan,” Sidhu’s acceptance letter.
