In an unprecedented move, the Government sent CBI Director Alok Verma and CBI Special Director Rakesh Asthana on leave to preserve the integrity of the investigative agency. Responding to the government's massive move, Rajya Sabha MP Dr Subramanian Swamy has urged Prime Minister Modi to 'ensure that the corruption investigation against P Chidambaram and others is not affected by this action'.

"I don't know whether it is appropriate or not, only because the matter is in the court and who (unclear) because both sides are in the court. I am more concerned about the corruption investigation and the impact on the investigating officer of this action because frankly Mr Asthana in my opinion was a crook and  the outgoing director Mr Verma was a very honest upright man, and Mr AK Sharma was also a vry honest upright man. By this action the PMO has treated them both equally, thats why it might have an adverse affect in the final stages that we are in Chidambaram cases and other cases. Impression should not go around that these people will go scot free, the accused like Chidambaram will go to the court and say that whole investigation against me was flawed and the court will absolve the whole thing. So the PM has to now take steps to ensure that the corruption investigation against Mr Chidambaram and others is not affected by this action,"said Dr Swamy.

"I don't care what the opposition parties are saying my opinion is that if we now falter on the ongoing corruption cases that will have an adverse affect on the party in the elections," he added.
