In massive development following the sacking of CBI chief Alok Verma, the CBI will be filing a case of corruption against the former Director, who has been now made the Director General of Fire Services.
The selection committee headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi had met for the second time on Thursday, January 10 to decide the fate of CBI Director Alok Verma who was reinstated by a Supreme Court order after he was sent on forced leave by the government.
The meeting went on for two hours earlier on Thursday. Two members, PM Narendra Modi and Justice Sikri, from the panel were for removing Verma from the panel. Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge gave the dissenting note in the panel.
The comprehensive CVC report acquired by Republic stated three major allegations on Verma:
ALLEGATION 1: RECEIVED 2 CR BRIBE AS CBI DIRECTOR
ALLEGATION 2: NOT CONDUCTING RAIDS AT LALU'S RESIDENCE
ALLEGATION 3: SERIOUS ALLEGATIONS REGARDING FUNCTIONING OF CBI
According to sources, PM Modi alleged that under the CVC report, the allegations are serious in nature.
While, Congress leader Kharge supposedly was of the opinion that the sacked Director ought to be given a chance to make his case before the committee, whereas Justice Sikri claimed that some charges in the CVC report require further probe as a prima facie case is made out against Verma. He added that an unbiased probe cannot take place while he enjoys the protection as a CBI Director.
