The Cabinet Committee on Security headed by PM Modi will meet on Friday morning over the Pulwama attack in which around 37 CRPF personnel have martyred when their convoy was targeted on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway.
The meeting is scheduled to take place at 9:15 AM, as per sources. Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, NSA Ajit Doval and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley are said to accompany the PM for the meeting.
In what is termed as one of the worst terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir in recent years, CRPF convoy comprising 78 buses in which 2500 personnel were travelling from Jammu and Kashmir was targeted on February 14. A bus in which reports have said that 42 security personnel were travelling, was extensively damaged in the blast which was followed by firing on the vehicle.
Pakistan-backed terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad has claimed responsibility of the attack, saying it was caused by a suicide bomber, according to a local news agency.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday condemned the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district.
'The sacrifices of our brave security personnel shall not go in vain', tweeted the Prime Minister adding that the entire 'nation stands shoulder to shoulder with the families of the brave martyrs," wrote PM Modi on his Twitter handle.
A 12-member team of the National Investigation Agency or NIA is set to reach Pulwama today to assist the Jammu and Kashmir Police in forensic evaluation of the spot.
As terror the world stood by India and joined hands in condemning the ghastly attack. US, Russia, Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka expressed condolences over the deaths of CRPF men in the suicide attack claimed by the JeM.
