BJP spokesperson Dr Sambit Patra slammed Congress party after it credited the success of ISRO's Chandrayaan-2 mission to efforts of former Prime Ministers Jawaharlal Nehru and Dr Manmohan Singh. Taking to Twitter, Sambit Patra called the statement made by Congress "really demeaning". He further said that while it is a proud moment for every Indian, Congress should not have drawn into the political arena.

Sambit Patra went onto take a dig at the Congress over missing leadership after the resignation of former chief Rahul Gandhi. The BJP leader said that when no future leadership is there in view, there is a tendency to fall back on the past to stay relevant, which he added is what happening to the Congress right now.

Moments after the successful launch of Chandrayaan-2 Lunar mission, the Grand Old Party, which is currently under no leadership, took to Twitter and said that it a good time to remember former Congress-led PMs Jawaharlal Nehru and Dr Manmohan Singh. In the tweet, Congress attributed Chandryaan-2 to the former PMs saying that it is the visionary move of India's first PM Jawaharlal Nehru to fund the space research through INCOSPAR in 1962, which later went onto become ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation). It also heaped praises at former PM Dr Manmohan Singh for sanctioning the Chandrayaan 2 project in 2008.

In a scathing jibe at Congress for hailing former Prime Minister's Jawaharlal Nehru and Dr. Manmohan Singh for ISRO's moon mission, Union Minister and BJP leader Giriraj Singh said that it is a good time to tell Indians that the 'Moon was discovered by Congress.'

Chandrayaan-2's rocket lifted off at the scheduled time of 2:43 PM on July 22. The average distance between the Earth and the Moon is 3, 84, 000 km. This moon-lander and rover mission proves that India is taking lead in space exploration as its mission aims to investigate the unexplored south pole of the moon. The three-stage GSLV Mk-III rocket named 'Bahubali' successfully injected Chandrayaan-2 into the Earth orbit shortly after launch.
