Chennai Super Kings may be ruling the roost in the Indian Premier League's scoreboard. But it's home city's central station seemed to have missed the top rank by just one.

The Chennai central station which was renamed as 'Puratchi Thalaivar Dr. M.G. Ramachandran Central Railway Station' on April 5, 2019, missed the honour of having the world’s longest railway station name by an alphabet, according to the Hindu.

Currently, that distinction is held by ‘Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch’ in Wales with a name with 58 letters.

While it missed the top honour worldwide, it still holds the record of having the longest railway station name in India.

There are other such 'long-honouring' named stations in India like Karnataka's Krantivira Sangolli Rayanna Bengaluru City. This station was renamed in 2015 honouring a princely State soldier who fought against the British.

Next in line is the Venkatanarasimharajuvaripeta in Andhra Pradesh which previously held the record for longest named railway station in India. While its name honoured nobody, it is located on the Andhra-Tamil Nadu border on the Renigunta-Arakkonam section of Southern Railway.

The most famous in the list is the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus in Mumbai, Maharashtra- honouring the Maratha Emperor Shivaji. The extra 'Maharaj' was added in 2017. The station was previously known as Victoria Terminus (VT).

Chennaites have suggested various solutions to bag the top distinction by tweeting:
