Shortly after P Chidambaram was arrested in Delhi by CBI officials on Wednesday evening after a dramatic sequence of events at his residence, his son and Sivaganga MP Karti Chidambaram addressed the media in Chennai. The Congress leader, speaking to media, maintained what his father P Chidambaram said during the press briefing at AICC headquarters earlier, saying that there is no charge sheet and no case against him and his father. On being asked about probe against him and his father in the INX Media case and other related cases, Karti targeted the CBI and claimed that if the agencies have evidence against them, they should file a charge sheet.
"There is no chargesheet because there is no case. If the agencies have evidence, they should file a charge-sheet. Why are they not filing a chargesheet? There is still no chargesheet after so many summons and questioning," Karti Chidambaram said minutes after his father was arrested.
On being questioned over his father P Chidambaram's arrest by the CBI, the Congress party leader once again maintained that the former Finance Minister had attended every summons issued by the probe agency and was not absconding. Karti Chidambaram went on to state that they will go to the court and "will be vindicated".
"My father was not absconding. He has attended every summon issued to him. When a person's anticipatory bail is rejected, it is not mandatory for him to go and offer himself to any agencies. ED has summoned him a number of times and he has appeared every time. We will go to the court, we will be vindicated eventually," he added.
When the reporters asked Karti Chidambaram on "who is doing all this?", he alleged that it is being done by BJP.
After 27 hours of being untraceable, Congress party leader P Chidambaram arrived at the AICC head office and addressed a press briefing. Following the press briefing, he reached his residence in Delhi, where CBI and ED officers came to question him. In unprecedented visuals, the CBI team had to climb the walls of Chidambaram's residence to enter his place after being blocked at the front gate. After sensational turn of events, CBI apprehended P Chidambaram for custodial interrogation in the money laundering and corruption cases.P Chidambaram is currently the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) headquarters in Delhi for questioning.
