Shortly after P Chidambaram was apprehended by the CBI officials from his residence on Wednesday amid high political drama for almost 2 days, sources have told that the former Finance Minister will be spending the night at the CBI headquarters. Furthermore, he is likely to be produced before the CBI Rouse Avenue Court on Thursday morning.
After 27 hours of being untraceable, Congress party leader P Chidambaram addressed the media at the AICC head office in Delhi. Moments after the briefing, when he arrived at his residence in Delhi's Jor Bagh, a team of CBI and ED reached his residence for questioning in the INX Media case. While they were blocked from entering the house from the front gate, the CBI team had to climb the back walls of Chidambaram's residence to enter his place. He has been taken for custodial interrogation in the money laundering and corruption cases against him. Chidambaram is currently the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) headquarters in Delhi for questioning.
After his father P Chidambaram was arrested by CBI, Karti addressed the media from Chennai. On being asked about probe against him and his father in the INX Media case and other related cases, Karti targeted the CBI and claimed that if the agencies have evidence against them, they should file a charge sheet. When the reporters asked Karti Chidambaram on "who is doing all this?", he accused BJP of his father's arrest.
"There is no chargesheet because there is no case. If the agencies have evidence, they should file a charge-sheet. Why are they not filing a chargesheet? There is still no chargesheet after so many summons and questioning," Karti Chidambaram said minutes after his father was arrested.
Ahead of his arrest, the former Finance Minister P Chidambaram addressed a news briefing at the Congress headquarters in Delhi despite having been issued summons by the CBI. Addressing the news briefing at the AICC, Chidambaram maintained that neither he, nor his son Karti had done anything wrongful, despite the Delhi High Court having refused his anticipatory bail plea a day earlier observing that there was a mountain of evidence against him. Chidambaram went on to state that the FIR recorded by the CBI in the case does not impute to him of any "wrongdoing" yet.
"In the INX Media case, I have not been accused of any offence, nor is anyone else including any member of my family been accused in any offence. In fact, nor has any charge sheet filed by either the CBI or the ED before the court. The FIR recorded by the CBI does not impute to me any wrongdoing yet there is a widespread impression that grave offences have been committed and my son and I have committed those offences. Nothing can be further from the truth spread by pathological liars," he added.
