Great drama ensued outside former finance Minister P Chidambaram's Jorbagh residence as the CBI and ED teams attempted to open the gate of leader's house after he returned home from the AICC headquarters where he addressed the press. The CBI and ED sleuths had knocked Chidambaram's door multiple times before they went on to climb the wall as the Congress leader refused to respond to the authorities.
In an unprecedented move amid the CBI investigation in the INX Media case, former Finance Minister P Chidambaram addressed a news briefing at the Congress party headquarters in Delhi on Wednesday evening. Addressing the news briefing at the Congress headquarters, Chidambaram maintained that neither he, his son Karti or any other member of his family have been accused of any offence in the INX Media case. He further claimed that there is no charge sheet filed by either ED or CBI before a competent court in the INX Media case. During Chidambaram's press briefing at the Congress headquarters, senior party leaders including Kapil Sibbal, Ghulam Nabi Azad were also present, along with his lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi.
On Tuesday, the Delhi High Court rejected Chidambaram's anticipatory bail plea in the INX media case. Shortly after the announcement of the Delhi DC, a team of CBI and the ED reached Chidambaram's Delhi residence on late Tuesday evening only to return empty-handed since the Congress leader was not at his home.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Supreme Court registrar said that the hearing in the INX Media case will take place on Friday. P Chidambaram's counsel on Wednesday appealed to the apex court for interim relief from the arrest of the Congress leader after Delhi High Court rejected his anticipatory bail plea in the INX Media case. Even after Chidambaram's counsel urged the Chief Justice of India for the urgent hearing of the case, the CJI referred the case to the registrar who then said that the hearing will be on Friday.
