Chidambaram's Lawyer Asks CBI To Avoid Coercive Action, Before SC Plea

P Chidambaram's counsel has appealed to the CBI in writing to avoid any coercive action before the former Union Minister's plea at the Supreme Court at 10:30 AM

After P. Chidambaram's disappearance, in the latest development, the former Union Minister's counsel has appealed to the CBI to not take any coercive action after a bail denial in the INX Media case. 

Arshdeep Singh, the Congress leader's Counsel asked the CBI to not take any action until 10:30 AM on Wednesday in writing, saying that the plea will be mentioned before the Supreme Court at that time. 

He further said that the CBI notice did not mention the section under which Chidambaram is required to appear. On Wednesday morning, a 3- member team arrived at P. Chidambaram's residence to keep a close watch on the former Finance Minister's movement. 

On late Tuesday night, the CBI issued a summon to P. Chidambaram to meet the probe agency within two hours. This development came shortly after a team of CBI arrived at the Delhi residence of Chidambaram as a part of the probe in the INX Media case. The notice has been posted outside the residence of P Chidambaram by the probe agency.

"You are hereby directed to attend before me within two hours of the receipt of the notice for the purpose of the investigation of INX Media case," the investigation officer wrote in the notice addressed to P Chidambaram.

Chidambaram on a run? 

Officials from both CBI and ED reached P. Chidambaram's residence on Tuesday evening, just hours after the Delhi High Court dismissed his plea for an anticipatory bail in the INX Media Scam, opening up the possibility of an arrest of the former Home Minister.

Chidambaram was last seen at the Supreme Court along with the Congress legal eagles- Abhishek Manu Singhvi, Kapil Sibal and Salman Khurshid at around 5 PM on Tuesday evening when the Congress senior leaders were confronted by Republic TV.


In the INX Media scam, Chidambaram had approached the High Court with a plea for an anticipatory bail in the corruption and money laundering case. However, during the arguments, both the CBI and ED had opposed the bail, on the grounds that his custodial interrogation required as the former Union Minister was being evasive during the questioning.
