Innocent, happy, lively and cheerful - ask anyone and they will say they cherish their childhood memories the most. The pure joy of life can be felt in a child as he laughs innocently, claps madly and giggles without any reason. Truly, you don’t need a reason to be happy when you are cheerful from within.

“That’s the real trouble with the world, too many people grow up.” – Walt Disney

Contrary to the innocence of childhood, adulthood is often described as stressful, mundane and tiring. While we cannot control age in terms of numbers, we can surely decide how we want to grow up! Your inner child does not have to die for you to qualify as an adult. This Children’s Day, bring your inner child alive and let it play!

“Caring for your inner child has a powerful and surprisingly quick result: Do it and the child heals." – Martha Beck

Keep your inner child alive

"Just imagine becoming the way you used to be as a very young child, before you understood the meaning of any word, before opinions took over your mind. The real you is loving, joyful, and free. The real you is just like a flower, just like the wind, just like the ocean, just like the sun." – Miguel Angel Ruiz

Here are some practices that you can imbibe to keep your inner child alive:

Laugh often: Laugh as often as possible because laughter is considered as the best therapy for stress and perhaps the best medicine for any kind of emotional pain. It triggers healthy physical and emotional changes in the body, boosts mood, kills stress, relaxes the body and diminishes pain.

“Laughter is wine for the soul - laughter soft, or loud and deep, tinged through with seriousness - the hilarious declaration made by man that life is worth living.” ― Sean O'Casey

Live in the moment: You have to let go of the worries of tomorrow and the regrets of the past to be able to live in the present. As Louis Tomlinson rightly said, "Live for the moment because everything else is uncertain." Living in the moment also keeps you aware of the world around you and empowers you to make conscious decisions. Don’t let the pain of the past stop you from smiling today!

“Happiness, not in another place but this place...not for another hour, but this hour.” ― Walt Whitman

Be more honest: Not only because “honesty is the best policy,” but also because when you are honest, you don’t have to fear. Be it confessing how you feel about someone, admitting your mistakes, appreciating someone’s gestures or being true to yourself, just do it.

"Pretty much all the honest truth telling there is in the world is done by children." - Oliver Wendell Holmes

Trust more: Trust more and judge less to keep your relations simple. Children's default is to trust people, they believe and don’t judge others by the way they look or act. The more positive our attitude towards is, the simpler the life gets.

“All the world is made of faith, and trust, and pixie dust.” ― J.M. Barrie, Peter Pan

Worry less: Kids don’t worry about what others think, they are what they are. A lot of the stress comes from worrying too much about what other people think. Just throw yourself into it fully and be who you are. embrace the real you.

“You've gotta dance like there's nobody watching, love like you'll never be hurt, sing like there's nobody listening, and live like it's heaven on earth.” - William W Purkey
