In a major development in the AgustaWestland chopper deal, Republic has accessed the fresh charge sheet filed by the Enforcement Directorate on May 22, 2019, which has exposed the Congress link in the Rs 3,600 crore VVIP chopper scandal.
In the charge sheet, middleman Sushen Mohan Gupta has named Madhya Pradesh CM and senior Congress leader Kamal Nath's nephew Ratul Puri, whose house was raided by the Income Tax (I-T) department team earlier in April 7 in Delhi in connection with an alleged illegal transaction case.
As per the charge sheet, middleman in the AgustaWestland case Sushen Mohan Gupta told the ED officials that Kamal Nath's nephew Ratul Puri's RPuriTechnostone was paid around 14000 Euros by him. Gupta confessed about the Congress links in the case when he was confronted by the ED with the data of flash drive /pen drive/ diary given to the investigative agency by accused Rajiv Saxena, who later turned an approver.
The ED charge sheet states that Sushen Mohan Gupta told the investigative agency that remittance of Euro 14,000 was made to RPuriTechnostone by him on October 21, 2009 and when asked who is RPuri, the accused said that it could "refer to his friend Ratan Puri, who was an industrialist based in Delhi".
Following the IT raids in April, the Enforcement Directorate had also summoned Ratul Puri for interrogation in a money laundering case related to the AgustaWestland VVIP chopper scam in the same month. However, Puri denied having "any connection or involvement of any kind in defence or the case", the ED informed a Delhi Court in April.
Congress leader Kamal Nath's nephew Ratul Puri is said to be the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Hindustan Powerprojects, one of India's leading integrated power players in the energy sector.
Meanwhile, in the charge sheet, the ED has also claimed that Sushen Mohan Gupta and others have received kickacks in various defence deals since 1995.
IT Raids in April
Ratul Puri was raided by a team of Income Tax officials in Delhi. Searches were conducted in connection with money laundering angle in the AgustaWestland case. As per reports, Ratul Puri was allegedly named by both middlemen Rajeev Saxena and Sushen Mohan Gupta during their ED interrogation.
