The President of Akali Dal accused the Congress CM of Punjab for playing with fire, “It’s a very sad day for Punjab, as Punjab has earned peace after a lot of sacrifices. We have always been warning the Chief Minister (Amarinder Singh) as for the past one and a half year he has been hobnobbing with those forces who are responsible for disturbing peace in the state. We have always warned him, don’t play with fire and because the fire will be so huge that you won’t be able to survive. And that’s exactly what is happening here.”

“We strongly condemn what has happened and I will tell the Chief Minister to start distancing himself from forces responsible for disturbing peace,” he added.

Further accusing Singh of patronising anti-national forces and stating Akali Dal to be the representative of the Sikh community, he said, “Those forces who are talking about breaking India and raising these slogans, the present government is patronising them, everyone is aware of it. And we had told them from before that don’t get into this mess because remember what happened 25 years before when they wanted to break Akali Dal. Because Akali Dal represents Punjab and the Sikh community and if you look at it the same game was played by Congress 25 years back but with god’s grace we were able to save the state.”

“My father (Parkash Singh Badal) is writing a letter to the Home Minister of India, to tell him that exactly what we were saying, the same fears are coming, and even the Army Chief said the same thing. These forces are being sponsored by outside forces and yet the present government is supporting them just to divide for vote banks,” he added.

He emphasized on the need for safety of Punjab considering it shares its border with Pakistan, “Let us first look at Punjab, the main aim should be safety of Punjab because if that state is secure the entire country is secure because we share a border with Pakistan.”
