The Congress party on Thursday has written to the Ministry of Home Affairs alleging that there is a breach to party president Rahul Gandhi's security and a threat to his life. Three senior Congress leaders have written to MHA demanding probe in the matter.

The party had alleged that seven times a green laser pointer was pointed on Rahul Gandhi's body while he was addressing media in Uttar Pradesh, when he was present in the state to file his nomination. 

The incident has alerted the Grand Old party on threat on the life of Rahul Gandhi by a 'possible assassin'.

Earlier in April 2018, Rahul Gandhi’s office had written to Karnataka DGP hinting at sabotage after his plane developed a technical snag while he was on his way to Hubbali from New Delhi, and demanded an investigation into the matter. 

Gandhi's close aide Kaushal Vidyarthi wrote in a letter to state DGP Neelmani N Raju stating that his plane suddenly tilted heavily on the left side and the altitude dipped steeply with violent shuddering of the aircraft body.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday filed nomination from Amethi constituency. He was accompanied by UPA president Sonia Gandhi and sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and her husband Robert Vadra. This election, Rahul Gandhi is contesting a second seat, Wayanad, in Kerala where he had filed his papers on April 4.

Elections are underway with 20 states voting to elect representatives for the 91 Parliamentary seats in the first Phase of the elections. Voting for the 543 Lok Sabha seats is be held in seven phases: April 11, April 18, April 23, April 29, May 6, May 12 and May 19. Counting will be done on May 23.
